We all strive to have fame, but in reality... is that what you really want?
Sure what comes with fame is moneys, happiness and "everything that you truly want in life" but what about all the negatives that come with it?
You see what fame has done to several famous celebrities.
Justin Bieber. The Biebs has had a really rough year but he is starting over and trying to get back on track after he recently turned 21. His fame started when he was discovered when he was about 12 years old. Just a child! He grew up in the spotlight, all the mistakes average teenagers make, were blown out of proportion. Making him seem like he was the only 18 year old in the world drinking at a party.
Demi Lovato. Starting on Barney as a child, she had grown up with bullies at her schools but when she became the new Disney star things took a turn for the worse. Demi started drug abuse, self harm and an eating disorder. It wasn't until she went into rehab and quit her tour with the Jonas Brothers to better herself. She is now on the right track and is speaking out on behalf of mental health problems and bullying.
Other examples from years past are Lindsey Lohan, Jodie Sweetin (Stephanie Tanner) and Brittany Spears.
Fame as a child seems like the perfect path, but is it really? There are more and more famous children that are taking the wrong path and are being scrutinized for it.
All of this has been brought to my attention because of One Directions' band member Zayn Malik.
Zayn is a shy 22 year old from a small town in England. Thrown into this band that has immensely exploded over the last 5 years. Zayns 5 year anniversary of his solo Xfactor audition was actually just a week or two ago.
The boys are on their second worldwide stadium tour at the moment. They began this tour in February and are currently on the Asian Leg of the tour. So far on this tour Zayn has been very active on social media, posting selfies, interacting with fans, more outgoing on stage, dancing more; genuinely looking more happy than he has in a while. That is until this week.
A few days ago a picture went viral on the internet of Zayn with a girl that was clearly not Zayns long time girlfriend and fiancé, Perrie Edwards of the girl band Little Mix. Rumors went spiraling out of control saying Zerrie was just for PR, Zayn has always been a cheater and the engagement ring is some cheap knockoff from Walmart.
Zayn then proceeded to tweet out last night that he is in love with Perrie and people are just "jealous fucks". I applaud Zayn for taking a stand and tweeting that out.
This morning when I woke up, I logged onto my twitter, tumblr and instagram only to see that Zayn has "Quit the OTRA tour". Excuse me... he has gone home to the UK to take a break from all the stress that is being forced upon him. He is simply taking a break from 2 shows. I know it isa disappointing for those fans, but I would rather have a healthy singer at home than a sad and unhealthy singer at my concert. Just my opinion. But now Zayn is receiving even more criticism and it just needs to STOP! Zayn is just like you and me, he has a job to do, and a fiancé and does not need you to bring him down 24/7. He has grown into a brave and strong young man and if he needs to take a break to recover, let him! There are 4 other members in 1D to help take his spot. Sure they are not One Direction without Zayn, but he needs this time. He is such a reserved boy that simply cannot handle all of this hate and stress.
The media seems to love to take members of 1D down constantly causing a few of the members to lash out on social media.
As society, people are forgetting that these boys are your ordinary young adults that you would see at university or walking down the street or at your local mall. It just happens that every action they make is made public and seen as "bad" or "wrong".
Throughout my life, I have always thought that id would be super sick to be famous, meet other famous people, have money, travel all over the world... but recently I think I would absolutely hate to be famous. Everything I would do would be wrong. I'd be sent numerous death threats. People would hate me for no reason. Social media would be cyberbullying nonstop. I don't think I could handle it. I feel bad for celebrities. They work hard at what they do only to be brought down by us and the media. It is sad. Then we laugh at them for the mistakes that they have made. We are monsters who create monsters for entertainment. The fact that we are so obsessed with celebrities lives that we criticize them down to the brand of chapstick that they use. It is honestly sickening and disgusting.
I am ashamed.
To celebrities: you have my word from this moment on, I will never scrutinize or judge you. You have my full support no matter who you are. I am sorry.
