For one of my communications classes I had to write a memoir about a particular moment or event in my life. I chose to write about the weekend I met Niall Horan from One Direction.
Ryder Cup Memoir
Recently I was fortunate to experience an event that I will most likely remember for the rest of my life and it will continue to be a highlight. During the last week of September this year I was able to attend the Ryder Cup, a huge international golf tournament, right in my backyard of Chaska, Minnesota. Tens of thousands of fans attended from all around the world to watch the best of the best compete for the trophy for their team.
One person who attended was Niall Horan, a member of the boy band One Direction, he was there supporting his good friends on Team Europe. Let me tell you a little bit about Niall and the other band members. For the past five years of my life One Direction has been the one constant thing in my life and their music has been with me through high school changes, family deaths, breakups and my mental health difficulties. I have my good days and I have my really bad days, and on those down days I play their music to feel better, their music has gotten me through the worst lows possible. I have travelled across the country for this band just to see them in concert and I would travel across the world to see them perform again. Since the beginning Niall had always had a special place in my heart, he taught me how to be carefree, how to laugh things off and how to follow my dreams. It sounds cheesy but I honestly owe my life to him, and I had tried for years to meet him. So when I heard that he was going to be in my hometown for golf I knew that this was my time.

On September 30th I finally achieved my lifelong goal of meeting Niall Horan at Hazeltine International Golf Club. I was finally able to tell him thank you and how proud I was of him and how much he meant to me. Finally being able to tell him that while he was standing right in front of me only looking at me, meant absolutely the whole world. I met him again two days later and asked him to write out a lyric to his song for me to get tattooed and he recognized me. My idol who sees hundreds of fans everyday recognized me of all people.
Less than a week later I got the words he wrote on my ribs right below my heart because he will always have a special place in my heart. He was the sole person to keep me going in high school and I can honestly say I would not be here today if it wasn’t for him. It hasn’t even been two weeks since I first met him but I am still the happiest I have ever been. I didn’t have the best day yesterday but I just thought about Niall and my day instantly turned around, he brings a light into my life and I know he will continue to do that even when I am fifty. He has been part of my life for so long now I know it will be weird once I move on from my "teen boy band stage” but I will always have this little piece of happiness within me. I may just be another fan in his eyes but to me he is my entire world, and I was able to meet him in an environment where he was comfortable, where he was with his friends and where thousands of girls weren’t screaming at him.
