The hunger games
While growing up, I was never a big reader. I would pretend to read and flip the page every minute or so. I have only read two complete book series: the twilight saga and the hunger games trilogy.
While reading I enjoyed the love triangle, the thrill of the competition and the creativeness of the story. But when the second movie (Mockingjay Part 1) came out this last fall, I realized something that didn't catch my mind while reading the books.
In the movie, you are able to see the faces of the families. When Katniss and Peeta go on tour through the districts you see the families of the fallen tributes. You see the pain, the sorrow, and all the suffering they are going through.
My attention was drawn to this for several reasons. One being, I didn't really realize and put that picture in my mind as I read. Second, the story is based on a love triangle and not the fact that many innocent kids are dying. Lastly, how our society is focusing on the media.
I know, I know, I know. This is how are entertainment is now a days and nothings is going to change that, but I think that their should be at least some attention drawn to it. We should talk about how the Capitol is wrong for creating these games and emphasize the attention on peace.
The one part of the series so far that I appreciate is Rue. How Katniss is at a loss for losing a close friend in the arena. How the nation is moved by Katniss and how she cared for Rue at the time of her death. How there is finally some sympathy for these innocent killings in the Games brought on annually.
It reminds me of the was going on in the Middle East and Iraq and such. As an American, I know when a US soldier dies they do it for their country and it is a tragic loss. But what about that little girl in the village that happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time? Thousands of innocent citizens have died from this war, many being helpless children.
